Poway @ Mira Mesa
This playoff game
figures to be an even contest from the start. Both teams
have top QBs and quality players...both are explosive on
offense. In their final game, a losing effort to cross-town
rivals Rancho Bernardo, the Titans threw up 47 points, only to
loose 48-47. We
had similar scores against our common opponents: Torrey Pines
(ranked #3 in the section) and La Costa Canyon (ranked #2 in the
section). Our
home and away records are about the same, except Mira Mesa faired
much better in league, although argumentatively Poway plays in the
tougher Palomar league with all north county DI teams. Mira
Mesa averages just over 27 points per game, while Poway just over 25. Poway
tends to throw about a 1/3 more than Mira Mesa and rush about half
as much. Both teams have a cadre of fine receivers and running
backs. Both have top TEs in Poway's #34 Ryan Deehan and
Mira Mesa's #89 Chandler. Poway
has a state ranked defensive lineman #4 Nick Woods that
Marauders #66 Alex Muckle and #51 Dionte Cooper will
have to deal with. Message:
Both teams will go about
this game in a ONE-GAME-AT-A-TIME fashion...there's no looking
ahead to who we play next...you've got to concentrate on
winning this game...or there is no next game. Deciding
Factors: Both teams can really put the ball up, and run it
down the field...the deciding factor in this game may be which
defense steps up and does the job...both teams also have a group
of top quality guys that can "go on a tare" at any time,
and turn this ballgame into a runaway for either team...then
there's the unknown player who's filling in for an injured player, that
just might find himself in this game...
