It was Friday night under the
lights
at the Mecca... There was a great team effort tonight at the Mecca...I tracked every play from my seat in the stands near the 50-yard line, writing down names on my clipboard...who made the plays, who made the tackles, In search of the big time players to watch for the season. Forget any score...Forget picking an outstanding player...What I came up with was a list of Marauder names that was as long as the roster. Oh, there were some stars making some big plays, some names popping up more than others, but they were expected to...after all, isn't that what stars are expected to do. I'll leave it to the newspapers on Monday or Tuesday to hype the big names. What I saw happen tonight was a group of individuals, who put it all together between seasons, walk onto the field at the Mecca, get announced as a team, and play as good as a unit as I've ever seen...the lines controlled the scrimmage, the running backs were unstoppable, the QBs and receivers were in sync, and the DBs and LB's were just plain strong. And special teams couldn't have done better. I'd still like to provide my list of great performances in the game tonight to anyone who was unfortunate to have missed it.
